Sometimes it is hard to maintain professionalism when folks are all over you about the way you talk, your way of life, and so forth. As some of you all know , I am spending my next few months in Richmond on D.O.C. business. The class that I am in consists of 36 Corrections Officers. 6 of us are from SWVA (ROSP and KMCC respectively). The whole first week, me and my fellow Southwest Virginians have had to listen to gangsta ghetto c/o s from Boston, Norfolk, Charlottesville, Richmond, and other locations whisper behind our backs about how dumb we were, and have had to fight the urge to lay a hick [censored]-whipping. Funny thing is though, come Thursday night they were looking for us in the study lounge asking for academic assistance since only 2 out of the class had scored 100% on both of their written evaluations (Monday and Wednesday respectively), while they were re-testing, trying not to flunk out. Lo and behold, myself and officer Dockery from ROSP finished the week with another 100 on yesterday's eval. 2 out of 36 100%-both SWVA boys (Officer Lester from KMCC was 1 question away from being the 3rd out of 36 with a perfect average) Dont you all just love humble pie? BTW- the staff from food service all the way to the laundry folks are still having a tough time believing that the words Yes sir/maam, Thank you sir/maam, Good morning/evening maam still exist, as well as holding doors open for folks. I do believe that come Monday morning, some folks perceptions of Southwest Virginians may be slightly different than last Monday's. Moral of the story: Never confuse slow talking with slow thinking (we also are making the NOVA folks look bad on the Physical Training classes. It has to be a blow to your ego when you are lean and ripped about 210, and you are walking after running at the 1 mile mark, and a 6'2 245 pound hillbilly is running back after finishing his run and pushing you to the finish line)
